Make a decision and success will follow
I know this might sound a bit wacky. But if you want to be rich, make a decision to be rich. If you want to be slim and fit, make a decision to be slim and fit. Want to find great guy and settle down, make a decision to do just that.
A decision is stronger than a wish or a desire. It is you saying, ‘this is what I want and this is what I’m going to get no matter what’.
When you make a decision, and hopefully you’ve realized that making a decision means that it will actually happen, you then need to focus on the fact that your decision needs action. Then ensure that your actions are aligned with your decisions.
For example, you may decide that you want to move higher up in the company you work for quickly. Let’s say you have a goal to be an account director in two years. Your actions could be; to get into work on time or earlier every day; to make sure all your work is absolutely of the highest standard; to create networks and business friendships with those higher up than you or to read a self development book a month on topics you know will help you as an account director.
Because you’ve made a decision and it is taking you to a better place, you should find that you are excited about it and committed to it, perhaps you will even experience a sense of ease and relief because you know you are heading to a better place. Don’t you think that is a far better way to handle change and progress? I often find that people approach change and achieving things with fear and sacrifice. My take on sacrifice is that you are giving something up that you like, for something that you will like even more.
If you decide that you want to overcome food issues, decide that you will do just that no matter what. It may not happen overnight, in fact it could even take years, but when you make a decision to do something, it’s so powerful that you will find that you have strength, persistence and perseverance to sort it out and see it through.
If you decide that by your holiday you want to be in the best shape of your life, you know that there will be effort and challenging times involved, but that should give you a buzz because you’ve made the decision.
I recently made a couple of decisions in my life and now I’ve made them, it feels great. I know the things I’ve decided are going to happen and because of that, I have a sense of calm and ease, where as when you wish for something, there is a sense of fear or uncertainty that it may not happen.
One of the things that I realised in my personal life is that I wasn’t giving myself enough me time and having enough fun. It was work and boys, boys and work, with sleep and exercise in between! I think I lost a little bit of who I was because I was bogged down in focusing on others without putting focus on me – because of course when you work / run a business / have children you need to focus on others!
I sat down the other week, and got quite emotional and said out loud, ‘this is NOT who I’m meant to be!’ and I made the decision there and then, to be the real me, the better version of me and I can’t tell you how great it felt.
I also made some big decisions and set some new goals with my work. It’s time for me to achieve what I really want and am capable of, and I have an incredible team around me now that share my goals and aspirations. We sat down, wrote a plan and decided what we were going to do. Do you know the passion, determination and excitement that came out of it? OFF THE WALL.
Part of what we want to do has involved changing paths and taking a good look at what works and what doesn’t. So of course, this means letting go of some things, to create space and success for others. But without making a decision and without aligning actions with these decisions, there is no way we can get there.
What decisions do you want or need to make? Make them and see your life unfold in front of you…
Very best wishes,
