We all need SOMETHING that makes us DO

No-one can motivate you. Only you can motivate yourself. You can be inspired by others, but YOU need to take the action. Being self-motivated to do the things that sometimes you don’t want to but need to in order to get you where you want to be is key in life.

Discipline requires you to give up something you want, for something you want a little bit more. Whether that’s avoiding the food you want to eat, cutting back on the wine that you enjoy or stepping out of your comfort zone at a training sessions (or even getting to a training session!), you must find that SOMETHING.

Everyone’s something is different and if you don’t have it, you need to find it, and if you can’t find it, quite simply you’ll never do what needs to be done to reach your goals.

Here are the SOMETHINGS I’m using right now…

My peach short shorts

Janeys peach shortsI bought them for my holiday last year when I was the fittest and most toned I’d been for years and I loved the way I looked in them. I tried them on the other night and they look good but not great. That is what made me do a phenomenal swim yesterday, 30 minutes of conditioning last night and a 9km run today. Every time I slowed down, I thought of those shorts!


When I was out running today, I went nuts! But it was only when I combined the image of my shorts and bikini, with some powerful songs, that I was able to get to where I did. Today’s play list included:

This is my new jade bikini. It rocks and again, I look good in it, but over the next two weeks, I’m going to work my socks off, so when I put it on in the South of France, I’ll look and feel great.

Motivational audio messages
This is going to sound weird so bear with me… but my own motivational audio messages that I create for my online clients actually really help me. Today’s theme was ‘Time to take it to the next level’, and others include ‘What you focus on you get’, ‘Astound yourself’, ‘You are the master of your own fate’ and ‘What are you truly capable of?’  I need to hear positive affirmations and am a fan of all sorts of positive Facebook quotes pages too. My daily health choices are not just about looking good, I want to live on this planet as long as I possibly can, be a great mother to my wonderful twins and enjoy life to the full. That is what I remind myself of when I can’t be bothered to juice in the morning or going out for a training session. It’s also what reminds me that health comes above money, business, fun, whatever. Because when you lose your health, you lose everything. End of. I want to ensure I do everything I possibly can to remain healthy and have great vitality – because without vitality you’re not really living.

Seeing others succeed

Working with women determined to improve their fitness, health and achieve their goals inspires me daily. Seeing the women post on the forums for my online coaching programs is so powerful. All the women rally to congratulate each other on successes, provide motivation and advice for those struggling to get motivated and swap great info such as new healthy recipes, their favourite running tracks, pics of their fab new workout gear!

And when you see what I see with clients totally changing shape in four to eight weeks, it shows me that anything is possible when you put your mind to it.
